Stephen Woods has worked as a librarian for UHSM since 2003. Prior to this he worked for 10 years as a Reference Librarian at a busy London public library. During his time at UHSM Stephen has helped to develop many of the services provided by the library such as training, the library website, current awareness, promotion of information resources and the introduction of the library outreach programme.
Stephen’s main interest is electronic health information resources and imparting the specialist knowledge he has in this area to staff undertaking research. As well as conducting literature searches for researchers, he also regularly delivers the following group training sessions:
- Literature searching skills.
- Google and beyond.
- Critical appraisal.
A considerable part of Stephen’s time is spent working with staff on a one to one basis to assist them in carrying out a literature search. The help provided ranges from formulating an appropriate search strategy to effectively searching relevant information resources. These on-to-one sessions are open to staff and students based at the Wythenshawe site. If you would like to book one of these sessions, please complete the One to One Literature Search Training session request form. You will then be contacted to arrange a session.
